(perhaps you are managing dual careers or becoming a parent.)
• Committed to your own leadership and management development and wondering where to get some support and development?

The Programme
This exciting programme has been specifi cally designed for NIHR Trainees by Ashridge in conjunction with the NIHR. It is for people who are beginning to make a signifi cant contribution in their fi eld and who recognise that they will not be able to achieve what they hope for in health research without increased leadership and management capability. The programme provides an opportunity to explore together management and leadership in health research at four levels: Individual – what does it mean for me personally? Team – what does it mean for me and my team? Institution – what is my role and impact in relation to my institution? System – how do I understand my part in the NIHR and UK research context? Places on the programme are fully funded by NIHR.
*Excludes travel expenses to the venue

The Learning Environment
We aim to work together in a relaxed, participative way that encourages open conversations. Ashridge’s role will be to “come alongside” and develop relationships of confi dence and trust so that we can provide strong support and feedback, tempered with realism. We will work with groups (up to 21 participants) who can provide each other with peer support and learn as part of a community. Diversity will be a vital element of the group – enough diversity for people to be exposed to different perspectives and experiences – so we expect each group will be diverse in terms of geography, gender, institution, clinical and academic backgrounds and areas
of research interest. Some of the work will take place at Ashridge in Hertfordshire and London; we will also work virtually, on the telephone and at your own place of work.

Your Commitment
We will provide a process of development aimed at achieving a profound impact over 12 to 18 months. The objective is to support and encourage a process of discovery and development that you feel fully part of and responsible for. This will of course require your own active participation and engagement with the group. We expect participants to commit to 8-10 contact days over 12-18 months. In addition, there will be some refl ective work to do and a small amount of preparation before workshops.

How to apply
Please contact Juliet Fulcher, Project Manager and express your interest in the programme (Juliet.Fulcher@ashridge.org.uk)
1. You will be sent an application form and, if the programme seems suited to you at this stage, you will be asked to have a telephone conversation with an Ashridge coach.
2. All applications are reviewed by an Ashridge/NIHR team, the group is selected and individuals advised of the outcome.
3. If successful you will be asked to submit a refl ective self-inquiry, which is an essential requirement, prior to the first workshop.

Are you: A senior NIHR Trainee?
