{"id":845,"date":"2012-12-14T16:27:01","date_gmt":"2012-12-14T16:27:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/healthresearch\/?p=845"},"modified":"2012-12-14T16:27:01","modified_gmt":"2012-12-14T16:27:01","slug":"stars-support-rice-dementia-research-institute-in-bbc-appeal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/healthresearch\/2012\/12\/14\/stars-support-rice-dementia-research-institute-in-bbc-appeal\/","title":{"rendered":"Stars support RICE Dementia Research Institute in BBC appeal"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"post-26224\">Bath\u00a0dementia research charity\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rice.org.uk\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">RICE<\/span><\/a>\u00a0has been chosen to star in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/b01pjnn9\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">BBC Lifeline programme\u00a0Christmas charity appeal<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The programme will be\u00a0broadcast nationwide on BBC\u00a0One\u00a0on Sunday 16 December at 4.05pm and Wednesday 19 December at 1.30pm and will featured\u00a0Sir Terry Pratchett and actor and presenter Tony Robinson who have both been affected by dementia.<\/p>\n<p>RICE is a registered charity carrying out research into assessment, diagnosis and treatment of dementia; to better understand and manage problems that affect the brain, memory and thinking processes.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_26225\" style=\"width: 410px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bath.ac.uk\/news\/system\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Terry-Tony-e1355409746599.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.bath.ac.uk\/news\/system\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Terry-Tony-e1355409746599.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"298\" \/><\/a> Tony Robinson and Sir Terry Pratchett\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>It was initially set up in collaboration with the University of Bath in 1984 and its\u00a0internationally recognised research aims to find better drug and non-drug treatments for people with dementia, to understand more about some less common types of dementia and to develop technology that can help people and their families.<\/p>\n<p>Sir Terry is living with dementia and\u00a0is treated by\u00a0RICE Director Professor Roy Jones.\u00a0Tony Robinson, a friend of Sir Terry, also\u00a0has personal experience of the problems dementia can cause as both his mother and father were diagnosed with the disease.<\/p>\n<p>The programme will show different aspects of the work done at RICE, including research and community support.<\/p>\n<p>Every donation will go directly towards the charity\u2019s research to improve the quality of life for everyone affected by dementia.<\/p>\n<p>For more information follow the charity on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RICE_Bath\">Twitter<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/RICE-The-Research-Institute-for-the-Care-of-Older-People\/183818031661330\">Facebook\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bath\u00a0dementia research charity\u00a0RICE\u00a0has been chosen to star in the\u00a0BBC Lifeline programme\u00a0Christmas charity appeal.
