{"id":278,"date":"2016-04-13T12:45:24","date_gmt":"2016-04-13T11:45:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/it-status\/?p=278"},"modified":"2016-04-14T08:58:37","modified_gmt":"2016-04-14T07:58:37","slug":"badlock-microsoft-vulnerability","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/it-status\/2016\/04\/13\/badlock-microsoft-vulnerability\/","title":{"rendered":"Badlock Samba vulnerability"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On April 12 2016, an important range security vulnerabilities were disclosed in Windows Server Message Block (SMB) and the Open Source implementation Samba.\u00a0 The group of vulnerabilities were named <a href=\"http:\/\/badlock.org\">Badlock<\/a> and it received\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/2016\/03\/hype-around-mysterious-badlock-bug-raises-criticism\/\"> attention prior to the announcement<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/After http:\/\/www.wired.com\/2016\/04\/badlock-bug-hype-hurt\/\">afterwards <\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Whilst it was anticipated to be a critical vulnerability the issue is less disruptive as first thought though still important to address quickly.\u00a0\u00a0 Computing Services will roll out the patches to servers and desktops quickly in line with a normal but accelerated procedure and they should have no adverse effect on your working day.
