Some equipment was reset and some damaged. We are waiting for a report from the contractor to better explain the reasons for this unexpected failure.<\/p>\n<p>Some IT services, such as email, continued smoothly despite the significant outage and many, such as eduroam, were available after a short period of time. Others were more seriously affected by damaged equipment or a number of further complications, and were not available for several hours, including Moodle, iTrent and Agresso.<\/p>\n<p>I apologise for the deficient IT service you received yesterday and any disruption this may have caused you.<\/p>\n<p>We are moving to a new datacentre in 4ES in a few months, this has dual UPS systems which will significantly reduce the risk of failure during future maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dr Roger Jardine<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Director, Computing Services (Infrastructure)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday, routine maintenance carried out by a specialist contractor on our uninterruptable power supply [UPS] caused a short break to the power feed of one of our data centres.
