{"id":144,"date":"2016-04-01T06:00:48","date_gmt":"2016-04-01T05:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/research-marketing\/?p=144"},"modified":"2017-11-01T14:01:48","modified_gmt":"2017-11-01T14:01:48","slug":"todays-the-day-for-open-access","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/knowledge-exchange-and-research-impact\/2016\/04\/01\/todays-the-day-for-open-access\/","title":{"rendered":"Today\u2019s the day for Open Access"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>HEFCE\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hefce.ac.uk\/rsrch\/oa\/Policy\/\">Open Access Policy<\/a> comes into force today which has important implications across all our research and will be a critical factor when it comes to the next REF assessment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>From today (1 April 2016) all journal articles and conference papers with an ISSN must be accessible via Open Access. Practically, for researchers, this means that authors\u2019 final peer-reviewed manuscripts must be deposited in PURE in full text form within three months of their acceptance for publication.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst this policy does not apply to monographs, book chapters, other long-form publications, working papers, or data, the publishing of these in Open Access is strongly encouraged and may also be important for other purposes, including for external funders.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past 18 months we have seen a strong upsurge in Open Access publishing across all Departments and are now in a good position going forward.<\/p>\n<p>If you are still unsure about how to comply, please follow the three steps below.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>3-step guide to get REF ready<\/h2>\n<p><em><strong>Step 1 - Keep your authors\u2019 accepted manuscript<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep this version for journal articles and conference proceedings (with an ISSN).<\/li>\n<li>This is necessary even if the publisher will make the article Open Access on publication.<\/li>\n<li>Whether\u00a0you are the sole author, a co-author, a postgraduate or a professor, you need to keep this version of your paper.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Step 2 - Upload this to Pure ASAP!<\/strong> <\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When your publisher sends you an acceptance notification, log into\u00a0Pure\u00a0to add the basic publication details and\u00a0upload the document.<\/li>\n<li>The Library will ensure compliance with any embargo date.<\/li>\n<li>You are now compliant!
