Following our site closure due to COVID-19, BYUK have reviewed the Site Operating Procedures (SOP) published by the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) and aligned with the latest guidance from Public Health England. This has enabled us to implement procedures for the site to operate safely and re-commence works. To ensure we adhere to the social distancing guidance, we have gradually reopened and will continue to maintain a controlled capacity on site.

Reinforced Concrete Frame

The team have returned and hit the ground running, resulting in progression on all fronts of the reinforced concrete frame. Since our return we have completed the final slab pour to level 3 along with starting the core walls and columns to the west wing. Decking to support level 4 concrete slab has been established in the knuckle and continues through the west wing. The team have also been removing decking to level 2 along with the removal of propping to level 0 to reveal more of the RC structure.

Groundworks

The pavilion is the centrepiece of the building. It provides over 350 new study spaces, a café, and meeting areas for staff, students and local & global organisations.

Following the efforts made to complete the pavilion, the team has on started the ground works that will enable the install of attenuation tanks to store rainwater and surface water located outside the footprint of the pavilion. Significant efforts have been made to break through and remove the existing rock and we are also continuing to drill trial holes to locate the existing services in the area.

Basement Works

We have continued to close out the waterproofing details to the basement walls, enabling us to start the installation of the blockwork in this area. We have also loaded out material, marked out positions and are well underway building the perimeter walls.

Welcome to your monthly update on the progress of the School of Management building project.
