{"id":391,"date":"2023-04-01T11:42:49","date_gmt":"2023-04-01T10:42:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/omnibus\/?p=391"},"modified":"2023-04-01T11:42:49","modified_gmt":"2023-04-01T10:42:49","slug":"footprint-lunchtime-talk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/omnibus\/2023\/04\/01\/footprint-lunchtime-talk\/","title":{"rendered":"Footprint Lunchtime talk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What a fascinating talk from Jeremy Key-Pugh of Bath Abbey\u2019s Footprint project (Monday 13<sup>th<\/sup> March 2023).\u00a0 From hearing about the headless bodies buried under the ledger stones, filling the 6ft gap, created when the Abbey was rebuilt in the 1500s, to learning about the many local organisations and companies (including our own Engineering faculty) involved in the 15 years of this \u00a321 million project - \u00a310 million coming from the National Lottery fund.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/omnibus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/113\/2023\/04\/Jeremy-Key-Pugh-cropped.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-395 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/omnibus\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/113\/2023\/04\/Jeremy-Key-Pugh-cropped.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"99\" height=\"136\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The project was delivered in 3 phases, allowing the Abbey to continue to function and creating the new Discovery Centre, which has just opened.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy spoke of the history of the Abbey from the original Saxon Abbey, the replacement 11<sup>th<\/sup> - 13<sup>th<\/sup> century Norman building, to the Abbey we know today.\u00a0 He mentioned the challenges faced which included: restabilising the floor and poorly founded organ and burial memorials;
