Nanah\u00a0chose to study in\u00a0Bath\u00a0from Ghana\u00a0after hearing a friend\u2019s\u00a0glowing recommendation.\u00a0When she was here, you could find her taking part in challenges, exploring the\u00a0South West\u00a0and sampling\u00a0culinary delights. She\u00a0now works in an international school, where she puts everything learnt during her degree into practice.\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why did you choose to study at Bath?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A friend had attended Bath and shared his\u00a0great experience\u00a0with\u00a0me. I honestly had not heard of Bath until he mentioned it.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I did a bit of\u00a0research myself and was\u00a0very excited\u00a0about the MSc Advanced\u00a0Management Practice course. I applied,\u00a0and thankfully,\u00a0I\u00a0was\u00a0offered a place.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Can you tell us about your experience of studying here? Do you have\u00a0any favourite memories or places to visit on campus or in the\u00a0city?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I had a great time in Bath! I made friends from all over the world, some of whom I am still in contact with today. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I had to make an effort to adjust to the style of academic writing here, because it was totally different from what I was used to, but there were several workshops that were helpful. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bath challenged me to come out of my shell, speak up and give unfamiliar things a go. I demonstrated leadership and was elected as an academic representative for my class, as well as the team lead for a couple of challenges. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I have great memories of exploring\u00a0Bath\u00a0and Bristol\u00a0with friends. I enjoyed spending time with friends in\u00a0Nando's\u00a0and\u00a0Jimmy\u2019s\u00a0Restaurant, the 4W\u00a0Cafe and collecting keep\u00a0cups. You can tell\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0a foodie!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Above all, though, I enjoyed quiet nights in my room at Polden.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Were you part of any societies or sports clubs during your time at\u00a0Bath? What did you enjoy most about them?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I met with the African Students Society a few times,\u00a0but did not engage\u00a0much in sports,\u00a0honestly.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u00a0enjoyed taking part in projects and\u00a0challenges, such as the Zurich\u00a0Challenge. They were great opportunities\u00a0for learning new things and making new friends. For one of\u00a0challenge that I won with my\u00a0teammates, we were rewarded with a visit\u00a0to the\u00a0Houses of\u00a0Parliament.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Describe your career journey since graduating. What is a typical day\u00a0like in your current role?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I have been working as an Administrator and Teacher at St. Albans International School in Ghana since graduating. I\u2019ve also done further study \u2013<\/span><\/span> a couple of years ago, I completed a Bachelor of Laws degree. I hope to return to school soon to pursue a master's in law.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A typical day for me includes corresponding with parents and partners, supervising staff and pupils, engaging with stakeholders to ensure compliance, organising programmes and events and strategising for the future of the school.\u00a0<\/span> \"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

I recently visited the UK with some of my students and stayed at the\u00a0Polden\u00a0for a few days. We had time to explore\u00a0campus,\u00a0and some promised to study at Bath in the future. I will be\u00a0checking in on them in a couple of years to ensure they\u00a0stick to\u00a0their\u00a0word!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What do you enjoy most about your career? Has anything surprised\u00a0you?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The kids! It is a tough role to be in and is the mother of balancing acts, as you are required to balance the interests of parents, pupils and staff at all times. There is a lot of passion involved when dealing with children and sometimes, tensions get high. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the warm hugs and sweet notes I get from the children make it worth it. It was initially very difficult for me to handle conflict, but I am surprised by how quickly I think of solutions now. I think some of the challenges I participated in at Bath helped to train me to solve problems quickly!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How did your studies help you develop?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When I first started my role, there were some\u00a0very important\u00a0changes that\u00a0needed to be made to help improve workflow. The staff at the time were\u00a0opposed to the change because they had been doing the same\u00a0thing for years. I applied some of the strategies we had learnt in the\u00a0Managing and Leading Change module and eventually, things worked\u00a0out. That was just one of many instances where I was able to apply\u00a0my\u00a0learning to real life.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I was privileged to work with Property Solutions in Bristol for a placement as part of my course. In addition to working with the best team of people, I was given real responsibilities, which helped to develop my confidence and technical knowledge. I had the opportunity to interview the team and present my thesis on downsizing in organisations. I had a great time and keep in touch with Nigel, one of the team members.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Did you have a mentor, tutor, or lecturer who made a significant impact\u00a0on you?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I have fond memories of all my lecturers from\u00a0the School of Management\u00a0and appreciate all the\u00a0effort they put into preparing us for the future.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I especially remember\u00a0Kitty who would welcome us with a smile at coffee breaks, Mikhaila who\u00a0was quick to respond to my emails and solve my problems and Helen,\u00a0who reviewed my CV multiple times and sent opportunities my way to\u00a0help me land a placement.\u00a0I'm\u00a0so thankful\u00a0to everyone!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You volunteer on Bath Connection \u2013 could you tell us why you give\u00a0back to Bath in this way?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As an\u00a0international student, I was in unfamiliar territory and with\u00a0unfamiliar people. I had visited the United Kingdom many times prior,\u00a0but\u00a0never Bath.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I experienced some culture shocks, yes, but the more\u00a0significant change\u00a0for me was in academic writing, which was\u00a0significantly\u00a0different\u00a0from what I was used to. It took a while to get used to my\u00a0new environment.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I volunteer on Bath Connection to provide some insight or clarity for another new student who may find themselves in the shoes I was in years ago. It would mean a great deal to me if I could make someone\u2019s Bath experience even a little better.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What advice would you give to prospective students considering\u00a0studying your course at Bath?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

My course\u00a0\u2013 though\u00a0discontinued\u00a0\u2013\u00a0was excellent\u00a0preparation for a career in business, or any other field when you think\u00a0about it.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To any prospective students considering studying at Bath in general, I say GO FOR IT! Bath will change your life in a good way. Come with an open mind, open arms and make sure you enjoy yourself.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
