This autumn, we're bringing science, culture, and research to life in new and exciting ways, with something for all ages.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>All across the South West, researchers will be heading out into shopping centres, churches, museums, the streets, theatres, nature reserves, the airwaves and online to share their work.\u00a0 <em>FUTURES<\/em>\u00a0is taking research directly to the people!<\/p>\n<h1><em>FUTURES Festival<\/em> 2024 programme<\/h1>\n<p>The consortium of the region's five universities - Bath Spa University, Universities of Bath, Bristol and Exeter and Plymouth University - have been working with a range of creative practitioners, artists, researchers and audiences to devise events and activities that bring together science and arts to explore how research is tackling some of the big issues we face today.<\/p>\n<p>Our programme of 25 different events and activities across September and October includes late-night museum openings, hands-on activities, exhibitions, storytelling sessions, walks, talks, quizzes, radio shows and much more!<\/p>\n<p><em>FUTURES<\/em>\u00a0is a research engagement festival like no other.<\/p>\n<h2>Getting hands-on<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-767\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2021\/12\/Copy-of-AgileRabbit25092021_RobCoombe-144-e1694083699218.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1504\" height=\"847\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2021\/12\/Copy-of-AgileRabbit25092021_RobCoombe-144-e1694083699218.jpg 1504w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2021\/12\/Copy-of-AgileRabbit25092021_RobCoombe-144-e1694083699218-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2021\/12\/Copy-of-AgileRabbit25092021_RobCoombe-144-e1694083699218-1024x577.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2021\/12\/Copy-of-AgileRabbit25092021_RobCoombe-144-e1694083699218-768x433.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2021\/12\/Copy-of-AgileRabbit25092021_RobCoombe-144-e1694083699218-382x215.jpg 382w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1504px) 100vw, 1504px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Flagship<em>\u00a0FUTURES Festival<\/em> events take place on the last weekend of September and first weekend in October. At the <a href=\"https:\/\/futuresnight.co.uk\/events\/up-late-s-s-great-britain\/\">S.S. Great Britain<\/a> in Bristol, the <a href=\"https:\/\/futuresnight.co.uk\/events\/pop-up-curiosity-shop-of-science-and-culture-3\/\">Princesshay Shopping Centre<\/a> in Exeter and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/futuresnight.co.uk\/events\/holburne-up-late-the-women-of-bath-past-present-future\/\">Holburne Museum<\/a>\u00a0in Bath, audiences will have the opportunity to get hands-on with research and meet nearly 100 different researchers. Over autumn 2024, researchers will take part in text-based conversations in real-time, connecting with audiences to help understand what parts of their work are most relevant to the wide and diverse global audience who use the site. Around Exeter city centre, Plymouth's Royal William Yard and the streets of Bath, we have various walks with something for everyone. If you are a geology fan, then join Dr Jodie Fisher for her <a href=\"https:\/\/futuresnight.co.uk\/events\/geo-trails-at-voyage-of-discovery\/\">Geo Trails<\/a><i> <\/i>walk in Plymouth. Or explore topics such as invasive Asian hornets, solar energy and fungi with researchers on <a href=\"https:\/\/futuresnight.co.uk\/events\/walkie-talkies-expert-tours-of-exeter\/\">walks around Exeter<\/a>. The programme kicks off with a Media Commons Camp, where programme makers, community groups, and researchers spend a weekend sharing experiences and creating broadcast programmes.
