The\u00a0<\/span>2026 Festival of Social Science<\/span><\/b>\u00a0will take place from\u00a0<\/span>Saturday 17 October to Saturday 7 November 2026<\/span><\/b>, with the national theme\u00a0<\/span>Money,\u00a0Finance\u00a0and the Cost of Living<\/span><\/b>*.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of our\u00a0<\/span>ESRC Impact Acceleration Account<\/span><\/b>, the University is proud to be a partner and contributor to the\u00a0festival. This is a fantastic opportunity to\u00a0showcase\u00a0the breadth,\u00a0quality\u00a0and impact of our social science research to public audiences across the UK.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the success of our\u00a0previous\u00a0Festival\u00a0programme, the Public Engagement Unit and Festival Steering Group are now planning our contribution to the 2026 Festival.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0festival\u00a0relies on the creativity and\u00a0expertise\u00a0of our research community, and there are several ways to take part, depending on your interests and availability. Please\u00a0<\/span>register your interest by 5pm on Thursday 18 June<\/span><\/b><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Digital engagement: Reddit Q&A<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Reach a global audience without leaving your desk by taking part in an\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI\u2019m a Social Scientist \u2013 Ask Me Anything\u201d<\/span><\/b>\u00a0event on Reddit.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019ll spend around an hour on a day of your choosing answering questions from Reddit users about your research. The Public Engagement Unit will provide guidance and support.\u00a0<\/span>Please\u00a0submit\u00a0an\u00a0<\/span>EOI<\/span><\/a>\u00a0or book\u00a0an\u00a0<\/span>advice slot<\/span><\/a>\u00a0with the Public Engagement Team<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Research Assembly<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Research Assembly<\/span><\/b>\u00a0will bring together University researchers, local decision-makers\u00a0and community partners to explore how research can help address inequalities in our region.\u00a0<\/span>If you are working with (or would like to work with) public or community partners on inequality-related research, we would love you to share your work.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About the Festival<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>Festival of Social Science<\/span><\/b>, run by the\u00a0<\/span>Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)<\/span><\/b>, has been celebrating social science research across the UK since 2002. Each autumn, researchers engage public audiences through events and activities that highlight the value of social science in everyday life.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
