As part of the programme of events in Bath, we are looking for researchers to take part in some exciting activities to share their research.<\/p>\n<h3>Taking research to the people<\/h3>\n<p>This year for <em>FUTURES<\/em>, we'll be heading out from campus and taking research directly to the people with a programme of digital activities, hands-on experiments, science shows, games, quizzes, competitions, and exhibitions. <em>FUTURES2020<\/em> will be taking place on Friday 27, and Saturday 28 November 2020 and we have several opportunities for researchers interested in sharing their research and developing their public engagement skills.<\/p>\n<h4>Science Busking<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-525 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2020\/07\/29697_Euro_researchers_night_Edge_32-1024x655.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"903\" height=\"578\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2020\/07\/29697_Euro_researchers_night_Edge_32-1024x655.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2020\/07\/29697_Euro_researchers_night_Edge_32-300x192.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2020\/07\/29697_Euro_researchers_night_Edge_32-768x491.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2020\/07\/29697_Euro_researchers_night_Edge_32-336x215.jpg 336w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2020\/07\/29697_Euro_researchers_night_Edge_32.jpg 1151w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 903px) 100vw, 903px\" \/><\/h4>\n<p>We are taking research to the Southgate Shopping Centre in the centre of Bath with <em>Science Busking. Science Busking<\/em> is an informal and interactive way to share science and engineering research by developing and delivering simple demonstrations and experiments. Still, Science<\/span><em style=\"font-size: 16px\">\u00a0Showoff<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 16px\"> is an evening like no other where researchers share the lighter side of their work, proving that science can be just as funny as any other topic over a nine-minute comedy 'set'. Hosted by professional comedian Steve Cross, <\/span><em style=\"font-size: 16px\">Science Showoff\u00a0<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 16px\">is a fun evening of science, jokes, stories and laughter where people will have a chance to discover more about research and get an insight into life as a researcher at the University of Bath.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Walking with Scientists<\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-266 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2019\/06\/WWS_IS-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"871\" height=\"490\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2019\/06\/WWS_IS-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2019\/06\/WWS_IS-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2019\/06\/WWS_IS-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2019\/06\/WWS_IS-382x215.jpg 382w, https:\/\/blogs.bath.ac.uk\/publicengagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/130\/2019\/06\/WWS_IS.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 871px) 100vw, 871px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Walking With Scientists<\/em> is a guided walking tour of Bath with a difference. Working with theatre company Kilter Theatre, <em>Walking with Scientists<\/em> is part walking tour, part promenade theatre show taking people on a unique tour of the city connect Bath's rich science history to current research taking place across the University of Bath. Researchers deliver a 5 - 10-minute talks about their research at locations related to their area of study.<\/p>\n<h3>Develop your public engagement skills<\/h3>\n<p>If you are interested in participating in <em>FUTURES2020<\/em>\u00a0we are also offering a range of training and professional development opportunities to develop your public engagement skills including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Science comedy training with Science Showoff founder Steve Cross and\u00a0tailored 121 guidance and advice<\/li>\n<li>Science Busking workshops with\u00a0Science Made Simple develop techniques and activities to\u00a0catching the attention of an audience and explaining science simply<\/li>\n<li>Creative storytelling with professional storyteller\u00a0Clare Murphy to develop and\u00a0improve your presentation and communication skills focusing on helping make your research accessible and impactful.
