Do you have a brilliant idea to engage public groups with your research? Do you want some money to make those ideas a reality? Great news, the Public Engagement Unit's\u00a0Engage Grants funding call is now open.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Engage Grants for public engagement with research<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

If you're brand new to engagement or have years of experience, the Engage Grants are designed to support you to do public engagement, whatever your level of expertise. The Engage Grants are open to researchers, experimental and technical staff and doctoral students at any level.<\/p>\n

With our Engage Grants, we aim to support you in increasing your skills and understanding of public engagement by funding activities where you have an opportunity to give public engagement a go for yourselves.\u00a0 The Engage Grants are made up of three funds:<\/p>\n

Start-Up\u00a0<\/strong>- for projects up to \u00a3200<\/h3>\n

This fund is to support you to start a conversation with identified communities\/special interest groups\/organisations from outside academia who you have not previously engaged with. This funding aims to foster relationships and help create conditions for productive conversations that might lead to further public engagement with research activities.<\/p>\n

Initiator\u00a0<\/strong>- for projects up to \u00a3500<\/h3>\n

This fund will help you carry out small-scale or pilot public engagement projects to: support your learning about engagement, gain experience of engagement and develop your engagement ideas.\u00a0This funding is ideal if you have little or no experience of public engagement.<\/p>\n

Progression -\u00a0<\/strong>for projects up to \u00a32,500<\/h3>\n

This fund is to support you if you have prior experience with public engagement to further develop and deepen your skills and knowledge. You could use this funding to expand your existing activities, develop your leadership and facilitation skills in public engagement or to test out innovative engagement activities.<\/p>\n

If you're looking for inspiration for how to meaningfully engage people and public groups with your research, we have a range of public engagement case studies of previously funded projects<\/a> and project reports for you to check out<\/a>. These include:<\/p>\n

Young Researchers<\/strong><\/a> - a mentoring scheme for young people aged 13-17, between the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering and the Bath Royal Scientific and Literary Institution (BRSLI) to develop young people\u2019s skills in scientific enquiry and develop doctoral students\u2019 and early career researchers\u2019 skills in public engagement.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Healthy Later Living Network's Listening Project<\/a><\/strong> - through a series of informal conversations between researchers from<\/span> several disciplines in<\/span> the Healthy Later Living network and older adults from <\/span>community groups like <\/span>t<\/span>he<\/span> Bath Ethnic Minority Senior Citizen Association<\/span>, the<\/span> project aimed to gain <\/span>this insight to help inform the network\u2019s research priorities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fostering Hope<\/strong><\/a> -\u00a0a participatory research project that <\/span>brought together researchers from the <\/span>D<\/span>epartment of Social & Policy Sciences<\/span> with Bristol-based fostering charity The Adolescent and Children\u2019s Trust <\/span>with the aim of utilising each other\u2019s skills and expertise to<\/span> investigate a <\/span>challenge <\/span>the charity faced<\/span>,<\/span> finding new foster carers for refugee children.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Engage Grants are now open and the call will close on Monday 21 March 2022 at 9am. The closing date for the Initiator and Progression Funds is Monday 21 March 2022 at 9am, the Start-Up Fund will remain open until Friday 8 July 2022 at 5pm or until all the funds are allocated.
