He is best known for his book \u2018Walden\u2019 \u2013 an autobiographical account of his experience of living simply and \u201cdeliberately\u201d in a cabin in the woods in Concord, Massachusetts.<\/p>\n<p>Simplicity Day is a reminder to strip away life\u2019s clutter, embrace mindfulness and celebrate the simple things in life. It invites us to slow down, let go of excess, switch off from technology and unnecessary stresses, and rediscover joy in life\u2019s most basic and meaningful moments.<\/p>\n<p>Although we don\u2019t officially celebrate it here in the UK, it\u2019s worth reflecting on some of the lessons Thoreau imparted in his works \u2013 particularly in our current times of information overload and \u2018always on\u2019 culture.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cSimplify your life. Don't waste the years struggling for things that are unimportant. Don't burden yourself with possessions. Keep your needs and wants simple and enjoy what you have. Don't destroy your peace of mind by looking back, worrying about the past. Live in the present. Simplify!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Here are some things you can do to simplify your life this weekend:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unplug from technology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Taking breaks from screens can reduce mental stimulation and promote relaxation (particularly when you avoid social media and news updates). Consider putting away your devices to connect back in with yourself and those around you. You could designate phone-free times and locations, turn off your notifications, set time limits or dim your phone's display.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spend time outside <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Being outside in nature can be a great way of boosting your mood and overall wellbeing.
