If you’ve already received an offer from the University of Bath, congratulations! We’re still in the process of giving offers so if you haven’t received one yet, don’t panic.

What is the Calling Campaign?

If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably have quite a few questions at this point about what life would be like at the University of Bath – questions about the course, the campus, the accommodation and of course the social life. This is where we can help by giving you a student’s view of what you can expect.

Our calling campaign is something we run so that you can feel informed heading towards making decisions on which universities to put as your firm and insurance choices. It is a chance for you to ask any questions you might have about the university, and have a chat about what life is like here in Bath as a student.

Who will be calling me?

You will receive a call from a current Bath student who is studying the subject that you have an offer for. This means they’ll be able to give you an insight into how the course is structured and will be able to answer questions about the course you’ve applied for, as well as more general questions about student life in Bath. If you have an offer for multiple courses, you may receive calls from multiple student ambassadors, especially if the courses you’ve applied for are in different departments.

When will I be called?

You should receive an email the week before we are planning to call you, so hopefully our call won’t come as too much of a surprise! We will call between 5pm and 8pm on the weekdays we are running the campaign.

Don’t worry if you miss our call, we will leave a message with the number you can call back on to schedule a call back. If you don’t do that, we will try calling again the next day, so we will call you a maximum of two times.

If we call you at a bad time, like when you’re about to sit down for dinner, then feel free to tell us that. We will then be able to arrange to call you back at a more convenient time, so you won’t miss out on the opportunity to ask any questions you have.

If you’d rather not have a call, that’s absolutely fine – you can opt out via the email that you’ll receive in advance.

What kind of questions should I ask?

Sometimes it’s hard to know what you don’t know, so here are a few things you could think about that might help you figure out what to ask.

Choosing accommodation can feel a bit daunting, and I know I wondered what campus life would be like before I started here. All the callers will be able to give first-hand experience to help you decide what would be right for you. We have various different accommodation options for first year students - with en-suite bathrooms or shared bathrooms, catered or self-catered, city or campus. If you’re not sure what would suit you, this is a great way to find out more.

Bath has a really strong tradition of placement years for many courses. It’s not for everyone but it can be a great opportunity to get a taste of the working world before finishing your degree. If you’re considering taking a placement as part of your course, this is a great chance to ask any questions you have about how that works, how you apply and what kind of opportunities there might be.

You might also want to know about the social life here. Whether you’re interested in the nightlife in Bath, or if you’re interested in the non-drinking options, you’ll be able to ask any questions you might have. You can also ask about freshers’ week, what societies we have, or even just where the best place is to get a cup of coffee with a friend.

The calling campaign has been great for me to work on, and I really enjoy the conversations I have with applicants each year. It’s always great to share my experiences of university life and to answer any questions about Bath, as I absolutely love it here so am very happy to share all of that.

I’m really excited to talk to more offer holders over the coming weeks to answer your questions and give you a picture of life here. I hope this opportunity can help you feel more prepared to make your decisions on your university, and I look forward to speaking to some of you soon!

I’m Isobel, I’m a 2nd year Mathematical Sciences student at Bath, and I’m one of the student ambassadors who will be calling offer holders over the coming weeks as part of our calling campaign.
