A variety of options are available near the University. Drawing from my personal experience and that of others, I have compiled information on these options and what you should know about them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: center\"><strong>On-site accommodation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>University Accommodation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dorm.yonsei.ac.kr\/dormitory\/?mode=view1&amp;id=QUFBQXRSQUFDQUFBQWJGQUFJ\">SK Global House<\/a> <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Rooms:<\/strong> both shared and solo rooms are available.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Amenities:<\/strong> A small gym, accessible for both SK Global and International House residents. Rooms include a single bed, large desk, wardrobe, and plenty of storage space, including room under the bed for a suitcase, and own bathroom.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Price: <\/strong>Approximately \u00a31300 for a private room and \u00a31000 for a double room per semester.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Facilities:<\/strong> Lounge, computer room, laundry room, common kitchen on the bottom floor with microwaves, hobs and fridge\/freezers, music room.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Social Events: <\/strong>SK Global occasionally holds social events.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Security: <\/strong>Key card access and front desk security.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pros and Cons: <\/strong>Convenient, cheap, social and safe with good amenities, but can be competitive to secure a solo room, and there are rules against guests and alcohol.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/dorm.yonsei.ac.kr\/en\/dormitory\/?mode=view1&amp;id=QUFBQXRSQUFDQUFBQWJGQUFI\"><strong>International House<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Rooms: <\/strong>Girls-only, all shared.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Amenities: <\/strong>Rooms are similar to SK Global, with each resident having their side with a single bed, desk, wardrobe, and storage space. A small, shared fridge is included.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Price: <\/strong>Approximately \u00a3800 per semester.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Facilities: <\/strong>Shared kitchen on each floor with a microwave, hob, fridge\/freezer, small table, and seating area. Shared toilets and showers on each floor, laundry room with washing machines, dryers, free ironing boards, and a study area downstairs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pros and Cons: <\/strong>More affordable but less privacy due to shared rooms. Competitive application process. Applying as early as possible increases your chances of securing a spot, especially for the highly sought-after solo rooms in SK Global.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tips:<\/strong> If you don't get your preferred accommodation initially, email the housing office and express your willingness to be in any dorm. Persistence can pay off.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Location<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Both SK Global House and International House are conveniently located next to the Korean Language Institute (KLI) building and other buildings that host many exchange courses. It\u2019s about a 10\/15-minute walk from the main campus and main gate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;text-align: center\"><strong>Off-site accommodation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Popular Areas<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sinchon: <\/strong>Where Yonsei University is located, more relaxed, many shops, cafes and restaurants, very convenient.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hongdae: <\/strong>Slightly further, but still walking distance to Yonsei, lively and known for its nightlife.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Either of these locations would be great. Both are safe and easy to navigate, with great transportation connections to explore the rest of Seoul.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Types of Accommodation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Shared Flats<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Finding a flat: <\/strong>Social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook are great resources. Less social.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Airbnb <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Description: <\/strong>A range of options from rooms to entire apartments.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Price: <\/strong>Varies widely based on location and size.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pros and Cons: <\/strong>Often more comfortable and well-reviewed, providing peace of mind during the application process, but likely the most expensive option.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Transportation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you choose to live further from campus, buses and the subway are reliable options. However, both Sinchon and Hongdae are within walking distance of the university, adding to their convenience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>Conclusion <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Whether you choose on-campus or off-campus housing, each option offers unique benefits. On-campus accommodation provides convenience, safety, and a structured environment, while off-campus options offer more independence and the chance to immerse yourself in the local culture. As someone who has experienced both, as I lived in International House for semester one and a shared flat in Hongdae for semester two, it really depends on your priorities.
