My research focuses on using AI to understand important properties of chemical reactions, which can lead to the development of new methods for synthesising pharmaceutical molecules. Before starting my PhD, I obtained my undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the University of Nottingham and spent two years working as a research scientist for pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.

What are my motivations for attending the One Young World Summit?

The One Young World Summit is an incredible opportunity to learn about the most pressing challenges of our time and connect with inspirational young people who are striving to solve them. I’m passionate about using scientific research as a force for good, and I’m eager to meet other youth advocates working in similar areas. I look forward to hearing how they are addressing global challenges and exploring how my own work might contribute.

I also believe strongly in giving young people a platform to voice their ideas and stand up for what they believe in. One Young World provides an exceptional forum for young people to share innovative ideas, collaborate across disciplines, and engage with experts. Tis summit offers a unique opportunity for personal growth and skill development, helping young leaders like myself prepare to create a better future.

Which of the One Young World Plenary Challenges am I most interested in?

Given my PhD research, I’m especially excited about the plenary challenge focussed on AI. Over the past year, I have completed an MRes in ART-AI, gaining a solid understanding of both the technical and social challenges of AI. I’m keen to hear how AI is being used to tackle the toughest problems in society and to participate in discussions on how we can ensure the safe and responsible development of this transformative technology.

As part of this plenary challenge, I’m also thrilled to be delivering a workshop on the applications of AI across various industries. This workshop will encourage delegates to think creatively about how AI and data-driven approaches can have transformative impacts in their own fields.

Beyond AI, I’m also very interested in the plenary challenges of Health Inequalities and the Climate and Ecological Crisis. My research has implications for developing new medicines and can also contribute to more sustainable and environmentally friendly methods of chemical synthesis. My previous experience at AstraZeneca also allowed me to engage with issues relating to Health Inequalities and the Climate Crisis, and I look forward to engaging in meaningful conversations on these topics.

What are my plans after One Young World Montréal?

After One Young World Montréal, I’m excited co-lead the Marketing Team for the One Young World Bath forum in March 2025. Building on my experience with the Relationships Team for One Young World Bath 2024, I’m eager to bring the energy from Montréal to Bath, sharing the transformative insights I gain from the summit with our student community.

Additionally, I plan to build on the workshop I delivered in Montréal, adapting and repurposing it for the university community. I aim to work with key stakeholders across the university to offer the workshop to both students and staff, inspiring them to consider how AI can be integrated into their research and improving scientific communication around this technology.

Who am I?
