Bicycle security on and off campus

Posted in: Cycling

Over the past few weeks there has been an increased number of cycle thefts on and off campus.

The thieves are well equipped and use bolt cutters to cut through padlocks and cables. If your bike is secured with anything other than a D-lock (also known as U-lock) there is a risk of theft, even if your bicycle is in a secure cycle shelter.

To make sure your bike is as safe as possible please use a D-lock to secure your bike, as they cannot be cut through like other types of lock. You can purchase a D-lock from the Security desk in the Library at the discounted rate of £15.

Security are working closely with the local police on this matter.

You can find more information about securely storing bicycles from the British Transport Police and Better By Bike.
