Network Rail’s improvement work to the line South of Bristol starts this weekend, with work between Bristol and Taunton on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 March.  Work will also take place on the two following weekends (23/24 March and 30/31 March, between Bristol and Weston-super-Mare

Most services through the affected area will start/terminate at Bristol Temple Meads; services between the South West and Bristol Temple Meads will start/terminate at Taunton.

CrossCountry trains between the North of England/Scotland and the South West will either divert between Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton or start/terminate at Bristol Temple Meads.

Buses will replace trains to stations between Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton (16/17 Mar) or between Bristol Temple Meads and Weston-super-Mare (23/24, 30/31 Mar).

Further track renewal work is planned at weekends during April and May in the Bath area.

On Saturday 6 April this will mean:

  • Buses/coaches replace trains between Bath Spa and Westbury/Frome and between Westbury and Chippenham (via Melksham)
  • Services from Cardiff Central to Portsmouth Harbour will terminate at Bath Spa and then restart from Westbury

On Sunday 7 April, and on the weekends of 13/14 April and 11/12 May:

  • Trains between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads will be diverted and won’t call at Chippenham or Bath Spa
  • Coaches will operate between Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads, Swindon and Westbury/Frome, and Chippenham and Westbury (via Melksham)
