Update from GWR - 20 January 2021

Posted in: Public transport

We have received the following update from Great Western Railway:

"Government advice is to only travel for work if essential, or for other legally permitted reasons.  This means customer numbers are very low. We have therefore been reviewing our timetables to make sure that they are reflecting demand, and supporting key worker and essential travel.
As a result we will be making further changes from Monday, 25 January.

We will continue to operate over 65% of services. The key change in the Bristol area is that Bristol Temple Meads – Paddington services will be hourly on Saturdays, and weekday and Saturday local services between Weston-super-Mare and Bristol Parkway will be cancelled, with calls added into our Cardiff to Taunton local services instead. There will also be some later start up and early finish times across the network.

The changes are temporary, and they can be quickly reversed. We know the key services used by our schools and colleges and they will all be in operation before pupils and students return.

Our advice to customers is to check timetables before travel and this can be done through our online journey checker on https://www.gwr.com/travel-updates/check-your-journey

All our safety and enhanced cleaning regimes remain in place and we are working on plans with the Department for Transport to encourage a return to rail when the time is right.  For now, it is important that we protect key services and do all we can to support the lockdown."
