Hi everyone! My name is Grace, I am a first-year student studying Psychology. Since joining Bath, I have had the privilege of being a Gold Scholarship recipient! In today's post, I am going to talk about my journey on the scholarship so far as well as the application process.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Applying to the GSP!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

When deciding on Bath for university, there were many factors contributing to this decision. I loved my course, the campus and sport, but what really made Bath stand out was the numerous opportunities like the Gold Scholarship which really stood out to me. I read through the scholarship page on the website and admired the opportunities included within the programme such as volunteering, help with internship applications and skill development. I saw there were only 50 places available so I did spend a lot of time on my application, getting friends to look over to ensure it was as good as it could be. I would highly recommend doing this to any future applicants and not leaving it last minute! So, I applied and had my fingers crossed, until I got the email saying my application was successful! From that point on, I truly felt a part of the community at Bath.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\"An<\/p>\n

Plenty of Volunteering<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From the \u2018Congratulations\u2019 email, I have had so many opportunities that I would not have even thought of taking up if it was not for the Gold Scholarship. As part of the programme, we must complete 50 hours of volunteering across the year. To begin with, I signed up to join a Vertically Integrated Project \u2013 a student research project I have helped contribute to come to life. I also have taken part in the Research Apprentiship Scheme at the university, helping screen papers for a PhD student to help build her own research to be the most successful it can be. Both of these have helped me develop my research skills in psychology, which I have been desperate to try and do. Furthermore, in September I reached out to the Bath Mind charity to see if I could help out. Weekly, I run the charity shop in the city. I have met some lovely people, and I have enjoyed it way more than I thought I would! Additionally, I have become a student mentor at IntoUniversity, helping those from minority backgrounds develop themselves so they feel more ready to apply yo university if they wish. All these opportunities have built so many of my skills such as confidence, teamwork, resilience and problem solving which I am so grateful for and will apply to future opportunities such as learning to say \u2018yes\u2019 as much as I can.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

GSP Events so far\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

We have had numerous events this semester, such as our welcome day which I got to meet my fellow peer group members, and two STEP events which have built my knowledge. At our STEP B event, I met IntoUniversity, and now am about to start volunteering as a mentor for young students from a similar background to Gold Scholars like me. I have developed many\u00a0skills in my STEP sessions, such as personal development and professional development.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, this whole semester I have been learning Spanish to contribute to my STEP Extra \u2013 learning vital skills to help employability. This has been a big commitment to me, with lessons and homework every week. I have definitely made the most of university with this! Again, I would never EVER have considered this if it was not for the Gold team promoting these opportunities and driving us to improve ourselves!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Next steps\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am really looking forward to what the next semester brings such as our London away day in February. My key advice to anyone looking to apply for the scholarship, do it! It is one of the best things I have done at university, and you are silly not applying and taking your chance!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
