WISE CDT student Ioanna Stamataki attended the 9th International Conference on Fluvial Hydraulics, River Flow 2018<\/a> in Lyon, France. River Flow was a 3-day international conference focusing in river engineering and fluvial hydraulics with four parallel sessions running every day.<\/p>\n

This year, the specific theme was on extreme events such as floods and droughts and the other topics that were addressed were experimental and computational hydrodynamics, fluid processes of sediments and pollutants in rivers, river morphodynamics, river management and restoration, river interaction with structures, urban flooding and laboratory and field-testing measurements.<\/p>\n

The event was mainly attended by academics but also by some consultants and policy makers from around the world and Ioanna presented her conference paper \u201cStudy of dam break flow interaction with urban settlements over a sloping channel\u201d in the Urban Floods session.<\/p>\n

Ioanna enjoyed the diversity of the talks in the conference and discussed her work with a variety of people. Lyon is a beautiful city constructed around the confluence of two major rivers, the Rh\u00f4ne and the Sa\u00f4ne and the amazing weather during those days gave her the opportunity to rent bikes and ride to and from the conference on the river path most of the conference days.<\/p>\n
