To support the wellbeing of black engineering students at the University of Bath, the idea for the Bath Black Engineering Student Society was proposed by Sanjae King. Following from group meeting with students, the society marked its launch with a Meet and Greet session on Thursday 28th October 2021.
The launch brought together around 30 black engineering students with a welcome by Sanjae King and a video message from Professor Tim Ibell, Dean of Engineering & Design. We also heard from guest speaker, Dr Ekanem Ekanem, a Chemical Engineering Research Associate, his journey through academia from studying in Nigeria to completing a PhD in Loughborough and being employed as a researcher at the University of Bath.

The event provided an opportunity for us to meet and connect with those across various departments and roles within the university bringing greater awareness to the group and its purpose.
