Easter Monday - The 'I Am' Sayings

Posted in: Uncategorised

So here we are! It’s Easter Monday - a new day. Good Friday and Easter day have come and gone…  and life carries on.

As we wait for the campus to resume its activity of study, learning and living - we reflect on the seven “I am” sayings - promises of Jesus to all who decide to follow him. They are recorded in John’s gospel.  Each is a description, asks for a response and then gifts the consequence of so doing. They are promises to hold, examine and savour.

Jesus says “I am…
John 6: 35:       The bread of life” – come to me – never go hungry
John 8: 12:       The light if the world” – follow – never walk in darkness
John 10: 9:       The gate” – enter – be saved, come in (for sanctuary), and go out to find pasture (i.e. work)
John 10: 11,14 The good shepherd” – listen to me – there shall be one flock, and one shepherd
John 11: 25:     The resurrection and life” – believe - live
John 14: 6        The way the truth and the life” - come to me – find the Father
John 15: 5:       The vine and you are the branches” – remain in me – you will bear much fruit

We as a chaplaincy team continue to pray for every person on the campus, staff and students. We look forward to meeting again.

If these reflections have prompted questions, please email me on n.rawlinson@bath.ac.uk.
If it has prompted faith, praise God.
If you want to know how to follow Jesus, please ask.
And be encouraged. I find that belief in God is the one constant in a world of uncertainties.

A prayer for our world

Almighty Father, creator and redeemer
Please look upon your world
Give us guidance and your power to overcome this virus,
Be alongside those who are vulnerable and anxious;
And we ask for your safety and healing of individuals. communities and nations.
And on this campus help us to care for each other;
In Jesus name
Amen
