The University of Bath is creating space for local policymakers and leaders in the education sector, from primary education all the way through to HE, to share challenges and successes and identify opportunities to collaborate and tackle common issues.
In a roundtable event led by Professor Jane White, Vice-President (Community and Inclusion), representatives from the education sector across Somerset, Wiltshire and Banes came together recently for the first time to start a collaboration aimed at tackling challenges such as attendance in school, widening attainment gaps, infrastructure challenges posed by working with rural and remote communities and other issues that are specific to our region.
Professor White co-hosted the event with the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset, Mr Mohammed Saddiq, who has often highlighted his concerns around social mobility, social justice, and the challenges faced by young people in the areas he represents.
Involved in the event were Bath and North East Somerset Council, Wiltshire Council, Somerset Council, Wiltshire College and University Centre, Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership, Weston College, Oldfield School, Bridgewater and Taunton College and Bath Spa University.
