At the University of Bath we have published our latest Economic Impact Report, marking a significant evolution in how we assess our value to the region and beyond. Historically, our impact assessments have focused predominantly on economic measures - such as jobs created, student spending, and business engagement. While these remain vital, we recognise the growing importance of understanding our broader role as a civic institution.
In line with the latest guidance from City-REDI’s Demonstrating the Economic Impacts of Civic Universities report, we have worked with consultants Oxford Economics to expand our assessment to include civic and environmental dimensions. This means considering how we support local communities through volunteering, partnerships with schools, hospitals and the third sectot, and our broader public engagement, as well as how we’re addressing environmental sustainability through research, campus operations, and local collaboration.
This more holistic approach reflects the University’s commitment to being an anchor institution that contributes positively not only to the economy, but to the wellbeing of society and the planet. It also aligns closely with our University Strategy, which places emphasis on local and global partnerships and our responsibility in helping meet urgent societal challenges.
We’re proud of the steps we’ve taken in recent years and look forward to continuing this work with our partners across the city and region. You can read the full report here: The Economic Impact of the University of Bath – 2025
