We pride ourselves on our developing recruitment practices that are free from unconscious bias, inclusive and accessible. As an accredited Disability Confident Leader, we aim to build confidence and support disabled staff within our community.
Following our renewal of the scheme Richard Brooks, Director of HR, said:
Ensuring that we recruit, retain and develop diverse talent is immensely important to our University, and the recommendations drawn from our independent validation will allow us to further develop our recruitment processes to be even more inclusive for candidates with disabilities and once appointed, support retention and further development. We are absolutely delighted that our striving to keep our inclusive practice around Disability at the very highest level has been recognised by our assessors.
Where do we try and make a difference?
- All our roles are advertised on diverse jobs boards such as disabilityjobs.co.uk.
- Guarantee to offer an interview to all applicants with a disability provided they meet the essential criteria for the role
- Apply reasonable adjustments which include, but not limited to, availability for job descriptions and application forms in different formats, additional time during the interview, sharing the interview questions in advance, job coach to attend and support you or the provision of assistive technology.
We are very proud to be Ambassadors for autism by making adaptations such as; modifying communication, adapting the environment to reduce sensory stressors and providing information and materials in different formats.
