A message from Professor Cassie Wilson (Pro-Vice-Chancellor - Student Experience & Sport) and Professor Julian Chaudhuri (Pro-Vice-Chancellor - Education)
We’d like to send a warm welcome to our new and returning students at the start of the new academic year.
We love this time of year, it’s full of promise, and campus is buzzing with energy as people meet for the first time or catch up after the summer break.
Whether you’re a first-year undergraduate, new postgraduate, returning after the summer break, or re-joining your studies after a placement, we hope you’re enjoying the excitement of the new year and feel welcomed into our community.
We feel that Bath really is a special place, and last week’s news that we’ve been awarded ‘Sport University of the Year 2026’ by the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide is just another example of our collective success. Whether you’re a serious athlete or enjoy staying active, remember that our Sports Pass is free for all students, and a great way to connect with others and take a well-earned break from your studies.
This is also a chance to remind you that we’re all here to help and support you: academic advisors, peer mentors, Student Support, the Students’ Union, and your ResLife Ambassadors if you’re in University accommodation, or the Student Community Partnership if you’re living in your own place this year.
You may be missing home or feel unsure about making friends, and support is available when you need it; visit our wellbeing pages for people to talk to, or ways to stay positive. Whether you're navigating your first lecture or final year project, remember that you're part of a community that’s here to help you succeed.
We also encourage you to spend some time with the SU groups and societies, they’re open to all new and returning students, and are a great way to meet people who share your passions. And don’t forget to take time to explore the beautiful city of Bath and the surrounding area - it’s full of opportunities to connect with the wider community and discover new experiences.
Looking ahead, 2026 will also mark 60 years since the University was established - a milestone we’ll be celebrating together throughout the year. It’s a chance to reflect on our journey and look forward to the future we’re building together.
If you see us around campus please stop and say hello, we always love chatting to you and getting to know more about what’s important to you in your time at Bath.
Warmest wishes for the year ahead,
Cassie and Julian
