Tell us about yourself.
My name is Angela Omanga, an MSc in Operations, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management student at the University of Bath. Originally from Kenya, I completed my undergraduate studies in supply chain management before moving to the UK for my master’s. This is my first time living abroad, and the experience has been exciting and transformative, allowing me to expand my horizons academically and personally.
Would you like to tell us about an achievement/something you are part of that makes you proud at Bath?
One of my proudest moments at Bath was being part of the MSc consulting project, where my team developed a proposal for sustainable heating solutions for Edwards’ Vacuum. We began by conducting a thorough analysis of potential sustainable heating technologies and their suitability for the company. I was responsible for creating clear and cohesive PowerPoint presentations to showcase our findings and recommendations. I reviewed my teammates’ slides to ensure consistency and practised extensively to deliver my part confidently. I prepared responses to potential questions to anticipate the client's needs and used visual aids to simplify complex ideas.
Moreover, I coordinated with my team to ensure that our parts flowed smoothly into one another, maintaining a consistent and professional tone throughout the presentations. We conducted mock presentations to practice timing, transitions, and delivery, which helped us refine our performance and increase our confidence. As a result, our presentation was well-received, and our proposal was praised for its clarity and thoroughness. This hands-on project management experience was both challenging and rewarding, allowing me to hone my skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, effective communication, and teamwork.
What has inspired you during your time at Bath?
During my time at Bath, I have been deeply inspired by the university’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. The strong sense of community and support for students from different backgrounds has been truly motivating. Seeing role models in leadership positions and participating in initiatives that celebrate and promote diversity has made me feel valued and empowered.
As a Black student, representation matters greatly, and being part of a supportive environment has inspired me to aim higher and push boundaries in my personal and academic pursuits. The encouragement from the school of management faculty and peers has helped me work towards my greatest potential and strive for excellence in everything I do. This experience has reinforced the importance of fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels they belong and can thrive.
What are your future goals?
My goal is to become an Operations Consultant, focusing on contributing to the growth and development of organisations across Africa and beyond. I am passionate about leveraging my expertise in operations and supply chain management to help organisations optimise their processes, enhance efficiency, and drive sustainable growth.
I believe Africa has immense potential for innovation and development, and I want to be part of the movement that empowers local businesses to compete on a global scale. By providing strategic insights and tailored solutions, I aim to support the growth of African enterprises while also impacting global operations.
