UNESCO illustrates the gulf between EFA and ESD

In Paris, on Thursday 19, to Friday, 20 February, there will be a UNESCO Regional Ministerial Conference on Education Post-2015.  This is a "category 5 advisory committee", and is organized by UNESCO for Member States of the Eastern and Western European and North American region (Group I and II countries).  2015 is the target date for the achievement of the six Education for All (EFA) goals and the MDGs, and consultations on the future education agenda will culminate in the 2015 World Education Forum (WEF), to be organized by UNESCO and South Korea in May.  This is one of a number of regional conferences that provide a platform for countries of the region to review and analyze their EFA experience, develop a regional perspective on the emerging post-2015 education agenda, and reflect on future priorities and strategies to achieve the future agenda.

As a close textual analysis of the webpage shows, there are no references to ESD.  The theme page for this meeting is here, where there are references to the 11 themes of education.  These do include ESD, of course, and UNESCO shows how seriously it takes it by placing it on a par with ICT.

What else do you really need to know?  And still people wonder why the ESD Decade was such a flop!
