When I joined the Skills Centre team over the summer, the original assessment preparation planner had already been released for last year’s Semester 2 assessment period. As a student, I remember finding it really useful, so being part of its relaunch as the new Steps to Success Calendar has been both exciting and meaningful. It’s been a chance to see how a good resource can be adapted and improved, and to contribute to something that I know will make a difference during busy assessment seasons.
One of my main roles has been writing blog posts that are linked directly within the calendar. At first, this felt a little intimidating, after all, these posts are designed to help students with important assessments! But it quickly became rewarding to create content that speaks directly to student needs. As someone who hopes to work in student success in the future, it’s been invaluable to learn how resources like this are built and shared.
I also had the opportunity to contribute to the launch schedule. Drawing on my own experience of exam seasons, I suggested times when students are most likely to start thinking about assessments. It was great to add a student voice to those decisions, and to know that my perspective could help make the calendar more practical and timely.
Along the way, I even picked up new skills by editing a video to fit the relaunch. That creative side of the project was fun and gave me another way to contribute, while also learning something new.
Of course, my involvement is just one part of the huge effort from the Digital and Academic Skills team. Their expertise and dedication have shaped the calendar into a significant asset for students, and I feel lucky to have played a small role in bringing it to life.
I really hope students enjoy using the new Steps to Success Calendar and take full advantage of the work that’s gone into it.
