face looking up at word "Career"

Ah, you found (or re-found) our careers blog, well done! Now, quickly,  subscribe to our blog (link on the right hand side) and welcome to a wealth of careers resources, inspiring articles and careers news, employer and graduate interviews and much more. Come back regularly and you will find something  that will help you every step in your career journey.

See our  Careers Service information for new and returning students to get up to date!

In addition, do you have any questions about appointments and careers support? Check out our FAQ, which is continuously updated. You may find our most recent service update helpful.

Are you a final year? Make sure to check out our Checklist for Final Years blog entry coming soon!

Are you a fresher?

Enjoy your first few weeks at Bath. If you’re going to the Freshers Week, you’ll probably find yourself signing up for clubs and societies, or other activities like volunteering. You may even run into SU part-time jobs. All of the above are great for your CV, as potential employers look for students who can demonstrate their initiative, have strong communication and organisation skills (e.g. the ability to juggle coursework with extracurricular activities and jobs!), and have held some positions of responsibility during their time at University. It is never too early to think about your career!

Make sure you visit us in our wonderful University hub in the city centre, the Virgil Building and be sure to explore MyFuture to be kept up to date on careers events, jobs, careers resources (webinars, links, recordings of events and careers appointments). In addition, follow our Facebook page!

Returning to second year?

So, you’re back after the long summer break, welcome back! Now’s a really great time to be thinking about your career. Do you know what you want to do when you graduate? If not,  have a look at our Get Started Career Options guide and you could consider booking an appointment with one of our careers advisers to discuss your options, please do so through MyFuture. In addition, we have lots of employers coming to campus for our Careers Fairs, coming up w/c 18th October and in the meantime we have lots of employer events and skills development workshops for you to attend, all bookable through MyFuture.

Also, enjoy being back on campus and have a look at Freshers Week - take 2 and see what events and social activities you can get involved in. In addition, join a society, volunteer or consider a part-time job, above section for all the links.

Are you a postgraduate student?

As with our freshers, as a postgraduate you may also find some relevant societies for you and there will be specific events for you during Freshers Week. Spruce up your CV with relevant volunteering. Or a part-time role. There is also a Postgraduate Association (PGA) which represents and supports the nearly 4000 research and taught postgraduates on campus. If you are a postgraduate taught student or final year student you may want to think about applying for graduate schemes already now, therefore explore our Search for Work guide and attend one of our events on graduate job search. In addition, have a look at all the exciting events, including careers fairs,  on offer on MyFuture.

Over the coming months, we’ll be blogging on topics such as:

  • Application Advice on CV, Cover Letters and personal statements
  • Making the most of the careers fair
  • Aceing interviews and assessment centres
  • How to start your internship and job hunt
  • Equality and Diversity
  • and more sector specific and employer information within Engineering and Design, Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences and Management
