Two years after signing the Future Ambition Civic Agreement, it's a great time to reflect on how far the partnership between Bath and North East Somerset's civic anchor organisations has come.
The Future Ambition Board (FAB) is the delivery partnership behind the Agreement, bringing together leaders from across education, health, business, local government and the voluntary sector to turn shared ambitions into action. By working together, we're helping to tackle local challenges, create opportunities for our communities and maximise the impact of our organisations.
Recent activity has included collaborative work on skills, innovation, sustainability and inclusive growth, alongside strengthening relationships across the region to support long-term prosperity.
On the ground this looks like -
- A collaborative approach to development in Banes, going together to UKREIIF, the UK's leading event for connecting investors, developers, local authorities, universities and businesses to drive place-based growth and investment, to make a case for inward investment into B&NES.
- Shared planning for future energy needs across B&NES, exploring opportunities on civic organisations' estates and using University expertise to inform strategy.
- A shared approach to meeting national government housing targets - working across institutions to understand need and related issues around transport and infrastructure. We are close to launching the first ever co-created city wide student living strategy!
- Shining the light on fantastic employment and HR practices across the region - watch the FAB blog this coming autumn for a series of case studies sharing best practice.
For the University, these partnerships are fundamental. Being deeply connected to our city and region enables us to deliver greater impact through our education and research, while also strengthening the reputation of both the University and the city of Bath on the global stage. Strong local roots are the foundation for global reach.
