Kickstart a sustainable year ahead

Posted in: Climate Action Team, Student action

As the new academic year begins, it is the perfect time to start up new sustainable habits and take action. In this blog, we share top tips for students looking to do just that.

Setting the tone for the upcoming year

If you navigated the hustle and bustle of this years Freshers Fair, you may have spotted our Climate Action and Sustainability stand. Instead of tempting passing students with mountains of plastic freebies, we championed a different approach, more responsible and conscious alternatives such as seeded bookmarks, spaghetti measures and plant-based hot drink vouchers. Small changes we hope will help you to kickstart a more sustainable year ahead.

The star of the show: our student sustainability starter pack

The showstopper of our stand was the chance to win a Student Sustainability Starter Pack, worth over £50, this pack was filled with sustainable, ethically sourced products designed to set one lucky student up for a sustainable year ahead. Congratulations to the winner, Christopher Liu! While there is only one winner, we can’t resist sharing some standout products that prove sustainable purchasing is easier than ever (and doesn’t have to break your budget!).

  • Vegetarian cookbook: A plant-based cookbook is handy in exploring new meals, alternatively, you can skip the hassle and head to the Parade on campus for delicious vegan and vegetarian meals.
  • Divine Fairtrade Chocolate: Indulge in delicious chocolate, fighting exploitation. Divine and Tony’s chocolate can be found across campus catering outlets.
  • Refill products: An easy way to reduce your plastic waste, this action is made even simpler with the refill point in Fresh.

Other exciting products in the prize included a shampoo bar, eco-friendly stain remover, vegan beeswax wraps, eco- deodorant and much more. Many of these products can be found in Bath’s treasure trove of independent shops that stock sustainable alternatives to almost everything you need.
