At Bath, we’re committed to driving sustainable change throughout all aspects of our University through impactful and inclusive action. Staff and student participation is vital in shaping our sustainable culture at the University of Bath, and the latest Sustainability Survey offers us a valuable glimpse into the perspectives and priorities of our community.
Accelerating change
We’d like to thank everyone who completed our latest Sustainability Survey: we are now analysing the results and your feedback, and will share this later in the semester. Results from the survey will help shape our actions on sustainability and drive an exciting year ahead.
Since the last survey, we have taken practical action in response to the data, tailoring our efforts to our community’s needs. For example:
- 73% of staff want training on how to embed climate action in their job role and so this year we have introduced two new staff training courses: Introduction to Climate Action & Sustainability at Bath and Introduction to lab sustainability and LEAF
- 92% of people in our community are worried about climate change and we know that this can sometimes stem from feeling like you’re unable to do anything to tackle it: we’ve just launched Green Impact, a new staff sustainability programme to support all staff to take meaningful action on sustainability
- 26% of students stated that the range of opportunities available for them to take action on sustainability was important to them: there are many ways you can make a difference and we’ve created a new student webpage and student guide to help you get started
You can find out more about the range of actions and exciting initiatives being carried out across our whole community to tackle climate change and sustainability challenges in our latest annual report.
Prize draw
As a token of appreciation for those who participated in this year's survey, we ran a draw with prizes ranging from £25 to £300 of Bath gift vouchers. Congratulations to our 10 lucky winners!
The winner of the £300 student prize was Chinmay Ramesh, an Accounting and Management student, who said ‘I try my best to do my part for the planet in the little ways I can. I was happy to spare some time to provide the University my insights to hopefully contribute to making it more sustainable than it already is’.
Marie Salter, Head of Technology Enhanced Learning, won the £300 staff voucher and said, ‘Participating in the survey was just a small way in which I could contribute to this huge agenda and support some of the initiatives being explored by the University’.
The feedback received from our prize winners is a small but fantastic example of the dedicated and action-focused community that you are part of at Bath. We are in a position to make a lasting difference, and the most impact will be achieved through our personal and collective actions.
