Another day, and there's yet another ESD conference in an exotic location. This one's in that part of Spain that is forever British. No, not Ibiza – Gibraltar.
The breathless strapline for this event (I'll not be going) is: Universities as Beacons of Change: education for sustainability lighting up pathways for a new world.
No matter how much you might admire all this [ beacon – lighting – pathway – change – brave new world ] as an idea, you might have cause to doubt the image that accompanies it. It's a lighthouse which, of course, is not an image associated with progressive change and new worlds, but with wrecks and disaster. How apt.
