Podcast Spotlight - Anthems

Posted in: Inclusion, Race

It's hard to believe that October is drawing to a close, and with it our podcast spotlight for this month! Luckily we're ending on a high-note with Anthems, a collection of original manifestos, speeches, stories, poems, and rallying cries written and voiced by exceptional people, that celebrate and contemplate what it means to be human. Check out where to listen on the Anthems webpage.

Anthems is produced by Broccoli Productions, a London-based production company founded, in their words, 'in direct response to the lack of opportunities for minority talent both in front and behind the mic'. Contributors to Anthems episodes are given a word to base their piece around - ranging from 'Power' to 'Dissonance' to 'Authenticity' - and then share their thoughts with a performance, often reflecting on how world events and attitudes affect minority communities and the ways these are overcome through persistence, creativity and solidarity. There's something in this series for everyone and a range of incredible voices to choose from; Ella Otomewo and Char Bailey were standouts for us in particular!

And... that's a wrap! We hope you've enjoyed this collection of podcast spotlights to celebrate Black History Month 2022. Whether delving into historical archives to examine crucial events around the racial equality movement or uplifting Black creatives and their vision, you will find many more stories than the ones featured here, so do explore, expand your horizons and engage if you can. In doing so, we can celebrate Black History year-round and pave the way for celebrating Black futures, too.
