Staff networks: From strength to strength

Posted in: Community

Groups of people talking at tables in the Parade cafeIn July we held an end of semester barbeque to celebrate a brilliant year of activity by our staff networks. Over 75 staff from across the breadth of our networks came down to grab a hotdog and catch up.

We know that many staff belong to more than one network, so this was a great opportunity for everyone to get together in one place, acknowledging the intersectionality which gives us each a unique lived experience.

We took this chance to get feedback from network members on why they join networks, and what they love about them. The clear message was that our networks provide a space for connection, somewhere to find others who understand. If you like the sound of that, explore our list of staff networks here.

There was a University History quiz which proved trickier than expected, with only one team getting over five out of ten correct. Congratulations to the 'Superconducting Personal Statements!' team who got an impressive 6.5/10. Your little prizes will be on the way to you soon.

Looking ahead

At the internal EDI conference earlier in the year, staff network co-chairs expressed the desire to work together more closely to build opportunities and advocate for their communities who can often have shared challenges. We look forward to seeing what you can all achieve over the next academic year.

There are currently vacancies for co-chairs on:

  • Carers’ Support Network
  • Parents’ Support Network (two vacancies)

If you’d like to find out more about becoming a co-chair please email diversity@bath.ac.uk.
