From August 12 to 13, Carolina Pereira Fernandez and Lesa Cross, our International Mobility Coordinators from the International Relations Office, had the great pleasure of attending the Managing Mobility Conference 2025.

This event was hosted by HEURO Global (the Association of UK HE International Professionals Officers) at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Around 65 participants attended, representing about 35 universities from across the UK, ranging from newcomers to seasoned experts in student mobility. Everyone came together to share ideas, experiences, and best practices around supporting students in their international journeys.

Over the two days, we connected with colleagues working in the UK mobility sector through a series of engaging sessions. It was an excellent chance to discuss and explore how we can better support students to maximize their international experiences, covering everything from practical challenges to the wider benefits of mobility.

The sessions were both insightful and inspiring, and the networking opportunities gave us fresh perspectives to bring back to our own work.

Some of the key topics included:

  • Strengthening TNE Partnerships: Opening Doors for Short-Term Student Experiences
  • Key Updates to the Turing Scheme
  • From Posts to Passports: Leveraging Social Media for Student Mobility
  • Destination India: A Hub for Academic and Cultural Mobility

The session on the Turing Scheme sparked the most questions, highlighting how important, and sometimes complex it is for UK universities. This gave plenty for the Department for Education to take on board. Overall, the sessions and discussions offered valuable insights and ideas we can adapt to strengthen our mobility programs.

One of the highlights was a special dinner at Cardiff Castle. The beautiful setting and relaxed atmosphere was perfect for continuing conversations and building connections. We enjoyed delicious food and were entertained by some fantastic Welsh singing!

Events like this remind us how valuable it is to come together and tackle shared challenges. We’re excited to keep these conversations going and to further strengthen our mobility partnerships in the future.
