My experience of doing the Impact and Knowledge Exchange Fellowship

Manoela Oliveira Da Silva, Knowledge Transfer and Translation Officer from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, talks about her experience of doing an Impact and Knowledge Exchange Fellowship at the University of Bath:

This year I had the opportunity of joining the Impact and Knowledge Exchange Fellowship at the University.

The programme consists of a three hour workshop per month for the period of six months, plus a mentorship after the workshops are finished.

Thus, the schedule was pretty manageable. The workshops were well-designed and the facilitators very knowledgeable and committed. I really enjoyed this opportunity. My favourite workshop was the Lego one, in which we used Lego to explain our research. The great part was that every Lego piece could represent anything we wanted so it was a very imaginative activity and also a concrete way to represent our research and its impact.

All the workshops were a great opportunity to reflect about our work and its impact as well as to listen to other researchers work in an open environment. As a non-native person, it was also a great opportunity to understand how our university works beyond our own departments as well as understanding how to better prepare for impact early on in our projects.

Overall, it was a great experience and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to expand their horizons on the topic.
