In 2024, we ran two popular in-person training series on Measuring and Evaluating Social Impact for researchers and community organisations across Bath and North East Somerset. These were led by Stacey Pottinger from Octopus Impact, and were shaped by real needs identified through community conversations and applications to our Participate Grants.
Due to their success, we’ve transformed this training into an e-learning course, featuring the same practical tools, exercises, and reflective activities from the original workshops. The course equips learners with tools and strategies to effectively measure, evaluate, and communicate the social value of their projects.
What to expect
- Identify long-term organisational goals and impacts
- Explore models and develop a Theory of Change
- Apply a five-step evaluation framework (time, audience, research questions, evidence)
- Examine principles of evaluation, including ethics, equity, and trauma-informed practice
- Explore creative communication methods and channels
- Develop a communications plan tailored to platforms and stakeholder groups
Who is this for?
This free training programme has been informed by our conversations with community organisations around Bath and Northeast Somerset and researchers at the University and is for:
- community-based and third-sector organisations,
- social enterprises,
- researchers and academics,
- anyone interested in deepening their understanding of their project or organisation's social impact and learning about different techniques to measure and communicate this.
