On Friday 25 September 2026, we’re thrilled to be returning to the Museum of Bath at Work for the second year running and we want you to be part of it. As part of FUTURES, the West of England's free festival of discovery delivered through European Researchers’ Night, we’re hosting a one-night-only late opening that explores The Future of Work in creative, surprising and hands‑on ways.
This is a fantastic opportunity to step outside the university, bring your research into a lively public space, and spark conversations with curious audiences in a truly unique setting.
The 2026 theme: The Future of Work
We’re inviting ideas that connect with one (or more) of our three exciting strands:
- AI in the Workplace
- Health and Work
- Work in Literature and Film
Your activity might also link to the museum’s collection or take inspiration from Bath’s rich social and working history. However you approach it, we’re keen to support bold, accessible ideas that get people thinking.
Why get involved?
Taking part in FUTURES is about much more than a single evening. You’ll:
- Share your research in a relaxed, welcoming environment
- Build confidence and skills in public engagement
- Collaborate with fellow researchers, creatives and engagement professionals
- Inspire curiosity and meaningful conversations with the local community
Our previous late‑night openings have featured everything from interactive scavenger hunts and participatory research activities to banner‑making, open discussions, and hands‑on creative workshops; all designed to make research feel accessible, relevant and fun.

Got an idea – or just a spark?
We’re looking for interactive activities, installations or experiences that audiences can really get involved with. Your idea doesn’t need to be fully formed yet. Whether you’ve got something ready to run or an early idea you’d like to develop, we’d love to hear from you.
Your 250 – 300 word proposal should briefly outline:
- Your activity and how it connects to the theme or strands
- Any space, resources or funding you might need
- Whether you’ll need volunteers (and support recruiting them)
🗓 Deadline for proposals: Monday 8 June 2026
We also have a small pot of funding available to help cover materials and expenses.
Need help shaping your idea?
No problem at all. If you’d like support developing your concept, email S.Daroczi@bath.ac.uk by Friday 22 May 2026 and we’ll work with you to turn your idea into something brilliant.
Time commitment
The event itself runs on Friday 25 September 2026, with activities taking place between 4pm and 9.30pm (depending on your format), plus a couple of short, friendly prep meetings beforehand.
