APPLICATION WINDOW EXTENDED TO 2 APRIL 2026 - FOR TECHNICAL STAFF ONLY
Are you passionate about making a difference?
The Research Culture Steering Group is looking for new members to help us drive a positive research culture at the University of Bath.
About us
The Research Culture Steering Group (RCSG) is responsible for developing a positive research culture that drives high-quality research outcomes, careers and experiences for all.
The group’s work is aligned to the six strategic pillars of research culture, focussing on the aims and objectives laid out in our Research Culture Action Plan.
Our six pillars are:
- Career Development - supporting colleagues to achieve their chosen career paths
- Collegiality - creating an environment in which colleagues support each other to succeed
- Open Research - supporting transparency, rigour, and reproducibility of research and valuing different research output types
- Research Design - supporting excellent, flexible and appropriate research design
- Research Integrity and Ethics - supporting research that is conducted to the highest standards of academic rigour
- Research Recognition - recognising and celebrating the widest range of inputs to our excellent research
Chaired by Professor Rachel Arnold, Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research), the committee is made up of representatives from a wide range of faculties, departments, job families, career stages, and particular areas of interest or expertise - as well as members of the dedicated Research Culture team. Call for new members
We welcome representation across all departments and staff groups. Due to recent membership changes and to ensure broad representation across our university community, we are now especially keen to find new members to represent the following staff groups:
- Technical staff (deadline extended)
- Early career researchers (now closed)
However we would also like to invite expressions of interest from anyone across the University with a particular interest in one of the six pillars listed above.
Committee members are usually appointed for a term of three years, though we also welcome applications from fixed term staff applications.
Welcome to our latest members
We’re delighted to welcome our latest members to the Steering Group, both joining us from HR:
- Kate Elliott is Head of the Centre for Coaching and Leadership, and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in supporting staff and leaders in the University
- Emma Baker-Gaunt is Deputy Director for Equity, Inclusion, Culture and Staff Experience, ensuring we can provide an inclusive, accessible and supportive environment for all
A word from our Chair
RCSG Chair and Associate Pro Vice Chanceller, Professor Rachel Arnold, shares:
“We’re committed to building a positive and inclusive research culture. To support these endeavours, we need to hear voices from across our university community. Joining the Research Culture Steering Group is a great opportunity to help shape the environment that supports individuals and groups at Bath to thrive. If you’re passionate about making a difference, we’d love to hear from you.”
