The annual Ride Across Britain event is taking place again this year from Saturday 9 September to Sunday 17 September 2017.
We are expecting approximately 900 cyclists to stay on campus overnight on the night of Sunday 10 September until Monday 11 September. In order to facilitate their equipment they are being provided with exclusive use of the rear of the East car park and the entire East extension car park.
To ensure that the car parks will be sufficiently clear they will be closed from 10pm on Friday 8 September 2017 until the afternoon of Monday 11 September 2017.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
To facilitate the construction of the Polden accommodation building, changes are required to the roads on the west of the Claverton campus. Read more.
The motorcycle parking bays and bicycle bays opposite 2E in the underdeck will be suspended for a minimum of 4 weeks from Monday 17 October. Scaffolding already erected in this particular area has to be replaced with more robust scaffolding due to the urgent elevation works being conducted. All the relevant bay users will need to ensure that all cycles are removed before Monday morning. Apologies to all those affected by the disruption.
Our latest travel update looking at the weeks ahead:
If you know of any travel disruption please email firstname.lastname@example.org and we will include it in the blog.
University Security, along with support from B&NES Council, are encouraging staff and eligible students to get out of their cars and try cycling to work, with their electric cycle loan scheme. The bicycles can be borrowed for a week or two, and we hope we can change driving habits and encourage more people to make their commute greener. Find out how you can book your trial now.
Over the past few weeks there has been an increased number of cycle thefts on and off campus.
The thieves are well equipped and use bolt cutters to cut through padlocks and cables. If your bike is secured with anything other than a D-lock (also known as U-lock) there is a risk of theft, even if your bicycle is in a secure cycle shelter.
To make sure your bike is as safe as possible please use a D-lock to secure your bike, as they cannot be cut through like other types of lock. You can purchase a D-lock from the Security desk in the Library at the discounted rate of £15.
Security are working closely with the local police on this matter.
You can find more information about securely storing bicycles from the British Transport Police and Better By Bike.
