The University is celebrating the amazing women in our community for International Women’s Day on 8 March.
One of our many fabulous female members of staff is Rachael, who has worked in our Hospitality team for seven years.
We had a quick chat with Rachael to find out more about her...
Can you tell us about your role at the University?
I’m a food and beverage assistant at the lime tree on campus. I began working here seven years ago. My role involves keeping the counters running, serving customers and some supervisory duties.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The customers are my favourite part of my job, and my other colleagues that I work with on a daily basis.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I'm a mum of four and a grandmother, so family time is very important. But mainly, I like to go on holiday! I'm also a fully qualified florist, which I still do from home now and again for weddings, funerals and birthdays. I also run wreath-making workshops coming up to Christmas.
Can you name a woman who inspires you and why?
I would say my daughter inspires me. I know it sounds really weird, but she's just battled so much, and to come out the other side as the wonderful person she is, it just amazes me.
What advice would you give to other women in the University community?
Be yourself, be strong, and just follow your dreams. You literally can do anything you want to do. Take advantage of the positive presence and impact that the strong community of women working at the University provides.
