Hi, I’m Sam and I recently completed my data insight analyst micro internship with Career Innovation.
As a final-year Maths student, I was keen to gain real-world exposure to a professional working environment and build experience relevant to data-focused roles. Having previously worked primarily in retail and hospitality settings, I wanted to experience a more formal workplace setting, while developing relevant skills to the types of roles I hope to pursue. This internship provided me with that opportunity.
My main responsibility during the internship was to analyse and identify trends in data to support insight and decision making. Key responsibilities included:
- cleaning and preparing data for analysis
- creating data visualisations in Python to explore patterns
- using Power BI to create clear, professional visuals
- applying statistical and regression techniques in Python to investigate relationships and trends
This experience has been extremely valuable due to how much I learned (even in such a short amount of time). Working with tools like Python, Excel, and Power BI really boosted my confidence, and even though I had never used Power BI before, the internship gave me the chance to learn it hands-on and see how these tools are used in practice.
Overall, I would highly recommend this opportunity to anyone looking to develop both their skills and confidence.
