Dr Yongyan Zheng from Fudan University, Shanghai, joined us on March 30th 2022 to present a talk on Social Mobility, Multilingualism, and Language Education. She presented her work on two different projects, one with two Chinese groups with a large disparity in socioeconomic status and another with ethnic Korean families in China. Using these studies, Dr Zheng gave a dynamic yet easily-to-follow discussion of the place of language in social mobility and the complex socio-economic and political factors which shape family language policies.
