A citizenship education on the streets

Those parents who seemingly took their young children onto the streets to see looting in action must take a dim view of the citizenship education they're getting in schools.  Perhaps they thought that some sort of balance was necessary.  Meanwhile, in the Turkish commercial areas along Green lanes in London (a street I have a pedestrian acquaintance with) and in other parts of the capital, children are getting a very different form of moral instruction as they see their families take direct action on their streets to defend their properties, livelihoods and interests.  I hope that schools will have the courage to use all these experiences when classes resume in September.
