With apologies to Dr Seuss who probably never went to either Machynlleth (Mach) or the Centre for Alternative Technology (the Cat) even when its technology was actually alternative as opposed to pretty mainstream.
I enjoyed my visit to the Cat – even on a gloomy November day when it cannot have been at its best – and my overnight in Mach, as the locals seem to call it (or Mac, if you're English) – thus relieving everyone of the need of excessive syllables.
I am, however, still working out what I made of it all, and thinking about – as they are – what their best role and niche now might be. My money would be on joining the impressive list of Welsh museums as the Cat has good energy and materials stories about triumphs and disasters to tell, that surely can help us all.
