Beyond ESD: but not at the sharp end

Posted in: Comment, News and Updates

Learning from the sharp end – implications for sustainability in Higher Education is an international symposium taking place today and tomorrow in Bristol.  It seems to be trying to go 'beyond ESD', for which much praise.  It is jointly organised by University of Bristol and UWE (Bristol), and supported by the UNESCO SIDS Partnership ‘Learning from the Sharp End of Environmental Uncertainty’, and the NUS.  It is part of a wide programme of activities for Bristol’s year as the European Green Capital for 2015.  The full details are here.

Back in the Spring, I was invited to be a member of its Scientific Committee (that had a fine European ring to it, I felt), and I was happy to accept.  I have to say that this has not proved to be an onerous task.  In fact, since the invitation, there has been no communication at all – apart from regular emails that went to everyone in the SHED.  Whilst I did not expect to be very actively involved, I did expect something.  It's all rather odd.

For what my retiring name is worth these days, I rather feel it has been used.
