The US way of doing things

It is always fascinating to read about how other countries do things.  Under the heading: EE Advocacy Summer Successes and an Invitation to Participate, the North American Association of Environmental Education [NAAEE] says this about Environmental Education in the USA:

"Environmental Education made advances in two key pieces of federal legislation this summer.  EE was for the first time included in the comprehensive K–12 education bill when it passed the full Senate on July 16.  Though the promising language wasn’t in the House version, it’s still very much on the table in the House-Senate reconciliation negotiations scheduled for this fall.

A second crucial advance came as new climate education legislation was brought up for a test vote in the full Senate for the first time.  While it was narrowly defeated 44-53, many Congressional bills don’t pass on their first try and such a slim defeat is an encouraging sign.  A similar climate education bill is still pending in the House and we are looking for additional cosponsors (H.R.1961).  NAAEE is also supporting annual environmental education appropriations pending for EPA, NOAA, and other federal programs.

These successes are key steps towards final consideration of these pieces of legislation, and the field needs all of our voices to ensure we cross the finish line.

This is certainly a glass half-full view of the world.
